Adding a beautiful sink in the laundry room

Maybe I’m a little crazy, but I love a great laundry room. I end up spending more time than I’d like to in there an it needs to be a happy, organized, usable space.  I like to carefully plan where everything goes to help it stay organized since there’s really no point in organizing if you can’t keep it up.

I also really, really use a utility sink.  I bathe the dogs there, I pretreat laundry, throw in wet swim suits when we come in from the pool, wash extra dirty hands after projects… it’s just a great place for so many things that I don’t want in the kitchen.

This house didn’t have one.

I fell in love with this Kohler sink (there is also a smaller version available) and this Kingston faucet which is a knock-off of a MUCH more expensive one.  We installed it with the wall-mount brackets to make room for our Cat Genie litter box which will later be concealed by a curtain.

Sounds simple, but this sink and brackets weigh a TON.  Before we could do anything, we had to beef up the wall.  We basically ended up making it solid wood to be strong enough to support the weight of the sink.

We also had to stack the washer & dryer to make room which meant extending the dryer vent.  A friend thought that this was the most ridiculous idea ever, but we like it.  I guess it’s not for everyone.  We made a call to the plumber to tie into the washing machine drain & water supply.  While the sheetrock was removed, we also added an outlet because there is always some random tool we need to power.

Now that the heavy lifting is done, it’s now time to put everything back together and make it pretty.  I just started patching up the wall, but am loving this gorgeous sink & faucet already.  It really makes a statement!  The function of the room is already vastly improved.  The kitty toilet is now tucked out of the way.  We are basically using the sink every day even though the wall is still a disaster.

Can’t wait to finish putting this room together!  There will be more details soon since now we get to do the fun part: decorating.

PS – Yes, that’s a wine refrigerator in the laundry room compliments of the previous owner’s remodel.  Putting it here provides easy access from the pool.

Also, is that a litter box somehow hooked up to a water supply?

Yes! It comes with a splitter so you can hook it up to the washing machine supply or the sink. It also uses the laundry drain. It can dump into the toilet, but then it sits there waiting for you so the laundry install is much better.
