Big Prints for a Big Wall

A challenge for me in the new house has been working with the sheer scale of the big walls & vaulted ceilings.  They are great for creating the bright look & feel that we want, but sometimes it means scaling everything up to keep it from looking too cluttered.

For a wall in the dining room, we hung an oversized mirror that we have been given in a place where the girls love to play.  It’s adorable how the run in to check themselves out when they put in dress up clothes or when Chloe is practicing her dance moves.  We hung it to one side with the intention of eventually hanging some family photos.  The mirror is a massive 82.5 inches tall, so finding frames large enough while being thrifty was a challenge.  We ended up with 3 Hobby Lobby poster frames purchased during a 50% off sale.  They have a nice mix of silver and black that we are using in the room.  Even at that scale, hanging them horizontally to accommodate the photos we had in mind didn’t look great with the large spacing.  So, I went back and grabbed two smaller frames to get the spacing we were after.

Having large prints is a nice change to all of the smaller frames we have but don’t know what to do with.  We printed these photos in black and white on this wall since it is in such a central part of the house and we worried that the colors would add a cluttered feel.  The girls LOVE getting to see the new family photos (by www.cherish-photos.com) in large prints on the wall. These turned out beautiful and I love showcasing them in a big way.
